Dr. M V Gopalaswamy
GSI PU College is a monument in Mysore, to the late philanthropist and Teacher Dr. M. V. Gopalaswamy. After his early education in Madras he did his doctoral studies under the great psychologist of the time Dr. Spearman. His love for the native land and teaching brought him to Mysore and he joined as a Professor of Philosophy in Mysore University. Subsequently he founded the Dept. of Practical Psychology and served it with unique distinction and developed it to an enviable position. In 1935 he started ‘AKASHAVANI’ in his own house. In 1928, he introduced a new concept of Innovative Education through Shishuvihara. He was the first one to introduce the multiple choice questions in the examination system. After his retirement from Mysore University, he joined Bangalore Mental Hospital and started the research Department which has now become the famous ‘NIMHANS’. Dr. Gopalaswamy’s aims were noble and high.
Science Regular
The major advantage that science students have over non-science students is that they are eligible for science as well as non-science options - a privilege not available to students from commerce and humanities streams.
Commerce Regular
Commerce is the choice of a big community of the students. The students, who wish to work in a corporate world, usually select the commerce field in their education and wish to appear for CAT Exam and MAT exam. Commerce education in India has huge scope.
Sankalpa Integrated
Science students can appear in JEE Main 2017 and NEET 2017, for admission to top engineering and medical colleges of the country receptively. There is no lack of career/ course options for a science student after completing 12th standard.
Cultural Activities
The college encourage the students to participate in several cultural competitions such assinging, dancing, debates, essay, quiz held throughout the year. A student comes across several experiences and learns new things. I think here it would be right to say that importance of cultural events in college is equal to the importance of Studies. An opportunity to showcase the hidden talents possessed in themselves and along with it, it also keeps the student up-to-date with his own culture, by taking part in such co-curricular activities.
Library
A library is a treasure-house of knowledge. Our Library is an informative centre, a resource centre for learning. It is the vast ocean of books and a well-stocked library is an asset of our college. It is a place where not only books but also magazines, journals, periodicals and newspapers, Thesaurus, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, reference books, text books, books on general knowledge, IIT, JEE, CET, NEET etc. are available for the students to enable them to face any competitive exams with confidence.
Sports
Every class has a PT period once a week and students use to play indoor games, such as Chess, Caroms, Badminton etc. The college also trains students for Basket Ball, Throw Ball and Volley Ball and every year some of our students are chosen to represent and participate at the state and national level in the above said games.
Transport
GSI college runs a well-managed fleet of buses that covers all major routes within the city to provide commutation serrvices between the college and the student’s residence. The buses run on all working days at diferrent routes in and around Mysuru. Availing the transport facility is totally optional.
